The text of the oath

I, the citizen of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, joining the service of the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army, take the oath and swear to be honest, brave, disciplined soldier, strictly keep military and state secrets, unconditionally fulfill all military regulations and orders of commanders and chiefs. I swear to study military affairs, to protect military and national property in every way and to be loyal to my People, my Soviet Homeland and the Workers 'and Peasants' Government until the last breath. I am always ready, by order of the Workers 'and Peasants' Government, to defend my Motherland - the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics and, as a soldier of the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army, I swear to defend it courageously, skillfully, with dignity and honor, without sparing my blood and the life for achieving complete victory over enemies. If, on evil intent, I break my oath, then let me suffer the punishment of Soviet law, the general people's hatred, and contempt of the working people.
